The iconic Chemex® is a manual pour over style of brewing coffee. It was invented in 1941 by an American chemist Peter Schlumbohm & continues to be manufactured by the Chemex Corporation. It is made from a single piece of borosilicate glass which is high quality, non-porous and heat resistant. The qualities of the glass along with its unique very thick paper filter, the Chemex® brews a clear, pure and smooth coffee .

The Chemex® has been awarded for its design and holds a permanent place in the MOMA museum in New York and its design has remained unchanged since its inception. It is recognised within the art, design and scientific communities.

Another claim to fame: the Chemex® has appeared in the novel From Russia, with Love (1957), by Ian Fleming, who describes James Bond, when in London, brewing his breakfast coffee with one
