This coffee plantation was established in 1994 with seeds obtained from Papua New Guinea. The plantation is tiny and situated 100 km from the highest peak of Mount Everest. The farm is situated 75 km north of the capital Kathmandu at the foothills of the Ganesh Himal range besides the Trisuli Snow fed river. The coffee is the most northerly grown crop in the world! The plantation sits at an altitude of 900 masl. Due to their proximity to the high snow mountains, establishing the farm any higher would have put them in high frost area where the coffee plants would not survive. The coffee is 100% shade grown which has encouraged the return of several endangered wild life like leopard, dear civets along with a multitude of both migratory and non-migratory birds. The plantation produces washed coffee and irrigation is done via fresh snowfed waters of Mount Ganesh Himal making this coffee the only Himalayan Snowfed (Glacial) water irrigated and washed coffees in the world! All coffee cherries are picked and sorted entirely by hand.
